Sougata Sen 
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Science and Information Systems at BITS Pilani Goa Campus. I am also a PI of the Human Centered Future Computing Lab at BITS Pilani Goa. Prior to joining BITS, I completed two postdocs, one at Northwestern University, and another at Dartmouth College. I received my Ph.D. in 2017 from the School of Information Systems at Singapore Management University, where I was supervised by Prof. Archan Misra.
I build real-time, human-centred sensing systems that understand what people say and do. My current work focuses on robots that understand natural language and pointing gestures, Indian Sign Language technology for Deaf children and their families, and wearable and ambient sensing of everyday behaviour. I am particularly interested in making these systems work outside the lab: on resource-constrained devices, with diverse users, and without exposing private data.
My research interests include: Mobile and ubiquitous computing; Embodied AI and human–robot interaction; Sign language technology and accessibility; Wearable and ambient sensing; On-device machine learning.

- I am a Co-Investigator on the ICMR-funded project Implementing a digital platform for the real-time capturing, monitoring, and control of malaria among the migrant workforce in Goa state, led by ICMR-National Institute of Malaria Research (Field Unit, Goa) with BITS Pilani Goa, Goa University and the Directorate of Health Services, Goa (ICMR Intramural Research Programme, 3 years).
